Mexican Tile Floor Care: Do Not use Vinegar to Clean Your Mexican Tile Floor it Will Ruin the Finish. Vinegar is an acid. Proper weekly maintenance is just as important as getting the right installer in order to extend the life of your Mexican Saltillo tile. “No Mop & Glo and no Endust, no Spic and Span.” Would you put any of these things on your car? Don’t use them on your Mexican tile.”
Do not use vinegar and water a technique often promoted by tile setters after a tile installation and grouting. The vinegar will remove the leftover grout haze but continued use of vinegar, an acid, is harmful to tile and grout. The acid will eat right through the grout.
The best place to find neutral cleaners is the hardware or tile store, not the supermarket.
— The floors should be swept often. The combination of sand and leather soles has the same effect as sandpaper. The floor will be more difficult to clean and keep clean.
— Use a damp mop at least once a week. Your best tools are a 32-ounce cotton rag mop, a rolling mop bucket and a neutral cleaner that doesn’t contain acid, nitrates or phosphates. Be sure to rinse well with clean water.
